What does a fourth-year science high school student learn in mathematics?
In the fourth year of the liceo scientifico, students take complex numbers to their geometric and trigonometric form (modulus, conjugate, powers), consolidate exponentials, logarithms, sequences and trigonometry, and complete solid geometry with solids, surfaces and volumes. In statistics they work with joint distributions, standard deviation, correlation and regression.
On the syllabus: the licei follow the National Guidelines (Indicazioni nazionali) of Ministerial Decree (D.M.) no. 211 of 7 October 2010 (G.U. no. 291 of 14 December 2010, S.O. no. 275). The specific objectives for mathematics are set for the second biennium, not year by year: the choice of topics for this class is ours. This page follows the text for the liceo scientifico; the scienze applicate option has the same mathematics content (without the elements of computer science, which there are a subject in their own right). The objectives, quoted verbatim, are in the section below.
