What does a child learn in group 7 in maths?
In group 7 the child multiplies and divides decimal numbers, including by 10, 100 and 1000, and adds and subtracts fractions with unlike denominators. It multiplies a fraction by a whole number, learns about divisibility and prime numbers, and calculates the average. With the ratio table it solves ratio problems and calculates the price per item. It calculates the volume of a cuboid, converts area and volume units, draws mirror images and nets of solids, and writes a word problem as an equation.
About the curriculum: the core objectives for arithmetic and mathematics in primary education (Besluit kerndoelen primair en speciaal onderwijs 2026, Staatsblad 2026, 198, in force since 1 August 2026) describe what a pupil has mastered by the end of primary school, not what is covered in each group: the distribution of the subject matter across groups 3 through 8 is up to us. Schools may continue to work with the 2006 core objectives until 1 August 2031. The core objectives are quoted verbatim in the block below.
