What does a child learn in Year 5 maths?
In Year 5 a child reads and rounds numbers up to 1 000 000, finds factors and multiples, recognises prime, square and cube numbers, and uses long multiplication and short division. Fractions are compared, added and multiplied by whole numbers; mixed numbers and thousandths appear, together with the per cent sign. The child converts metric units, finds the area of rectangles, measures angles in degrees and reads line graphs and timetables.
