What do you learn in 7th grade AHS mathematics?
In Year 7, the focus is on differential calculus: difference quotient and differential quotient, differentiation rules (including the chain rule and derivatives of exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions), monotonicity, extrema and points of inflection, as well as optimization problems. In analytic geometry: circles, spheres and conic sections, the position of a circle and a line, tangents. In addition come discrete random variables with expected value and standard deviation, the binomial coefficient, the binomial distribution and calculating with complex numbers.
On the curriculum: The basis is the content of the AHS upper-secondary curriculum (Annex A of the regulation BGBl. No. 88/1985, Mathematics, Year 7). The curriculum assumes three weekly lessons; content set in italics is only compulsory in school types with more lessons (Realgymnasium) — here: conic sections and lines, parametric representations of curves, continuity and the polar form of complex numbers. The curriculum points are given verbatim in the block below.
