What does one learn in Grade 5 of AHS in mathematics?
In the 5th year, the focus is on number sets, absolute values and intervals, powers of ten and approximate values, transforming terms, and linear and quadratic equations as well as linear systems of equations in two variables. Functions are described with terms, tables and graphs: linear and quadratic functions, f(x) = a/x, and direct and inverse proportionality. In trigonometry: sin, cos and tan on the unit circle, calculations on triangles using the sine and cosine rules, and polar coordinates. Vectors in the plane: arithmetic operations, dot product, lines and distances.
On the curriculum: The basis is the content of the AHS upper secondary school (Annex A of the regulation BGBl. No. 88/1985, Mathematics, 5th year). The curriculum assumes three weekly hours; content set in italics is compulsory only in school types with more hours (Realgymnasium), here: prime numbers and divisibility. The curriculum points are given verbatim in the block below.
