In third grade, the child reads and writes numbers up to one thousand, understands the place value of digits, confidently knows the multiplication tables up to 10, and performs operations using standard written algorithms. They encounter decimal numbers through coins and measurements, measure length, time, weight, and capacity with conventional tools (meter, clock), classify numbers and shapes based on their properties, and read and represent data with diagrams, charts, and tables.
About the curriculum: in the 2026/2027 school year, this grade still follows the 2012 National Curriculum Guidelines (Ministerial Decree of November 16, 2012, no. 254), valid for classes already underway until the end of their cycle; the new Guidelines (Ministerial Decree of December 9, 2025, no. 221) will be introduced in this grade in 2028/2029. The objectives are set at the end of third grade, not year by year: the selection of topics for this grade is our own. The objectives, quoted verbatim, can be found in the section below.
