What does a student learn in 7th grade mathematics?

In grade 7, students perform operations with powers and roots, estimate roots, and write large and small numbers in scientific notation. They calculate price increases, discounts, and interest, and divide quantities in a given ratio. They simplify algebraic expressions, multiply algebraic sums, and solve linear equations. In geometry, they learn the Pythagorean theorem, the circumference and area of a circle, and in probability theory — events in simple experiments.

Important note regarding the curriculum: the new core curriculum (Journal of Laws 2026, item 378) will apply to grade 7 starting from the 2029/2030 school year — it is being introduced cohort by cohort. Until then, grade 7 follows the 2017 curriculum; the scope of topics on this page is similar in both curricula. The curriculum for grades VII–VIII is organized in blocks — it defines what a student should know by the end of primary school. Assigning a topic to a specific grade is our decision based on a typical course schedule; in the "Curriculum Scope" section, you can see the entire VII–VIII block with quotations from the ministerial regulation.
